Proposals for 92-94 Academy Street, Inverness

There has been a lot of media coverage recently following submission of planning applications to demolish 92-94 Academy Street and erect a new hotel in its place.
The Board of Directors of BID have had a number of meetings with the developer to understand the state of the current building and details of their proposals to replace it with a hotel development.
Following those meetings and indepth discussions with the project professionals the board of Inverness BID have voted overwhelmingly in favour of redeveloping the site as:
this would mean development of a building which is not fit for purpose as a business and is at present underused.
The development would mean replacing the dilapidated decaying building with a modern well designed quality decision.
Whilst the design is a modern one, the BID Board believe the building and the materials proposed are very much in keeping with and sympathetic with the surrounding areas.
We believe this development will lead to a viable business use, enhancing the area and bringing with it much needed investment, jobs and new business.
On behalf of the board, BID Chairman, Craig Duncan submitted a letter, which can be viewed here, in support of the application to the Highland Council. The proposals are also supported by Inverness Chamber of Commerce and SCDI.
The press release issued on behalf of William Gray Ltd by Weber Shandwick can be viewed here.
