BEST BAR NONE AWARDS CEREMONY 2012

At the fifth annual BEST BAR NONE Awards ceremony held  during the evening of Monday 14th January and attended by over 130 guests,   14 premises gained TEN Gold Awards and FOUR Silver Awards covering the categories of Pubs, Bars and Clubs.

The Exchange, Arts Bar in the Mercure Hotel, The Auctioneers and No 27 all gained SILVER awards whilst

The Kings Highway, Blacksmiths, Lauders, The Gellions, Johnny Foxes and The Den, The Room, Caffé Teatro, MacCallums, The Keg and G’s Night Club all gained GOLD awards.

For the first time this year, a new Award of Community Premise was given.  The local licensed premises is often the centre or hub of a communities life and can also provide broader services beyond the usual drinks, food or entertainment. This is what this Award recognises, the exceptional work that the applicants do for their patrons, their communities and the public generally.

This year this Award went to Blacksmiths at Culloden.

The Awards were handed over by The Provost of Inverness, Councillor Alex Graham.

Best Bar None is a nationally recognised awards scheme for licensed premises and currently runs in over 80 locations across the UK. This year over 290 premises throughout Scotland took part in the assessment process.

Organised by Inverness BID, premises are initially assessed locally and have to demonstrate how well they manage and operate their own businesses to meet a commonly agreed set of national benchmarks.

In Inverness 14 premises were assessed and the awards based on the results assessment and the local independent judging process.

Best Bar None demonstrates to the public, visitors and local residents that licensees are responsible operators.

It raises public awareness of the benefits of choosing to visit a well-run establishment.

Ultimately, in respect of the city centre community and users, Best Bar None raises the profile of Inverness as safe place to enjoy a night out.

Craig Duncan, Chairman of Inverness BID said “ As co-ordinators of Best Bar None in Inverness, BID recognise the value of these awards on both a national and local basis. We are delighted that the outstanding efforts of all of our local licensed premises have been recognised in this National Awards scheme.”

An independent judging panel decided that the overall winners in each category were:
