RIVER NESS FLOOD SCHEME - INVITATION TO PRE-CONSTRUCTION EXHIBITION

RIVER NESS FLOOD SCHEME (TIDAL SECTION)

PHASE 1 DEFENCE CONSTRUCTION, NESS BRIDGE – FRIARS BRIDGE

INVITATION TO PRE-CONSTRUCTION EXHIBITION

The Highland Council invites businesses to come along to the Pre-Construction Exhibition for the River Ness Flood Scheme in the Town House, Inverness on Friday 26th July 2013 between noon and 7pm

Contractor Morgan Sindall was recently awarded the £8.5m contract for this section of works. The exhibition will provide an opportunity for you to meet Morgan Sindall`s project team and view their programme of works.  Members of The Council`s site management including the Public Liaison Officer, Sally Cooper will also be in attendance.  Designers Mott Macdonald Ltd will be available to discuss any questions you may have and display proposals for the scheme.  Representatives from Inverness City Art (ICArts) will also be available to discuss the programme of public art works which are being developed in tandem with the scheme.

The flood scheme will raise the existing flood defences along both banks of the river in the form of low walls and landscaped flood embankments. It is designed to protect 800 residential and 200 business properties from a 1 in 100 year return period flood (including allowances for climate change and freeboard).

The ‘Tidal Section’ has been divided into two sections for design and construction:

-              Phase 1 – Upper Section (both left and right banks from Ness Bridge to Friars Bridge) and

-              Phase 2 – Lower Section (both left and right banks from Friars Bridge to the mouth of the river)

Construction of Phase 1 is planned to commence towards the end of August 2013 for a period of 18 months.

Construction of Phase 2 is anticipated to commence early in 2014 with completion by March 2015.

The District Valuer has been appointed by The Highland Council to liaise with landowners and businesses that are directly affected. If you would like to raise a concern please contact them on 03000 506298.

Highland Council and Morgan Sindall aim to minimise disruption to those affected by these works and would appreciate your co-operation. Public Liaison Officer`s will keep you updated with progress and information on road closures etc in the form of notifications and newsletters.  This information will also be on The Highland Council website.
