STV APPEAL - SONGS IN THE CITY - Sat 28th September

Some of the Highlands’ best bands and musicians will be treating shoppers to songs in the city in a special charity event later this month.

The stage is being set in Falcon Square in Inverness for a day of top tunes and entertainment in aid of the STV Appeal, which benefits children living in poverty in Scotland.

Bands and artists such as The Leonard Jones Potential, Furry Vengeance, Dr Wook (Kris Douglas from The Whiskys), Searching for Donkeys and Toby Michaels will be playing as part of a fund-raiser for the charity on Saturday 28th September.

STV's Highland reporter Nicola McAlley is organising the event, which will be filmed as part of the channel's week of STV Appeal programmes which will run from October 5 -11.

As well as on-stage performances the event will also have a 'Busk Stop' where shoppers will be treated to entertainment from more of the Highlands' top talent.

Nicola says "It's going to be a packed and very varied day. I'm delighted some of the best musicians from the Highlands are on board for this special event. The newly-formed Highland Brass Band are making their debut, and we will have the Inverness British Legion Pipe Band to round things off, as well as performances from Lionel, TFX, Sara Bills, Iain Mclaughlin and Duncan Overmeer plus salsa band Orquesta Latina del Notre.

"It's going to be a great day, we would love people to come along and enjoy the atmosphere and pop a penny or two in our collecting buckets while they enjoy the music."

"We have held events over the past two years but this is perhaps our most ambitious yet.  Every penny raised in Scotland stays in Scotland and last year we were able to give £3, 000 each to local charities The Calman Trust and For The Right Reasons, helping organisations and children and young people here in the Highland community.

"I've been overwhelmed with the generosity of people so far - the bands are all playing for free, Craig Duncan at Limelight Events has donated the stage, Finlay at North of Scotland Marquees is donating the stage covering and Calum Macrae from Furry Vengeance is providing PA for the bands.

"Jamie Macdonald and Murray Cameron from Netsounds will be stage managers on the day.  They have previously organised stages at the likes of GoNorth, Belladrum Festival and their own Takeover nights, so I will benefit from their expertise - or so they tell me!'"

"I'd also like to say a huge thanks to Jackie Cuddy and all the Eastgate Centre team, they have been very supportive.  Hopefully this event will help make a big difference to young people in our community and also be a great day out."

Bands and groups taking part include;

Dr Wook (Kris from The Whiskys), Highland Brass Band, TFX, Megan Blyth, Duncan Overmeer, Sara Bills, Lionel, Iain McLaughlin, Searching For Donkeys, Orquesta Latina del Notre, Step N Stylers, The Leonard Jones Potential, Furry Vengeance, and the Inverness British Legion Pipe Band.
