River Ness Flood Alleviation Scheme Update

Update by Highland Council (21.5.14)

The River Ness flood alleviation works are progressing.  Bank Street will re-open to two-way traffic at the end of June. This will apply to the full length of Bank Street from Ness Bridge to Friars Lane. The Council is mindful of the local business requirements and for the contractor to avoid peak Summer working, therefore Bank Street will be fully open to traffic for July and August.
It will close again to traffic on 1st September until the end of November, there will be access to Fraser Street as previously to properties and for buses, taxis, refuse and emergency vehicles only.  Bank Street will then re-open to traffic at the end of November through to early January for Xmas shoppers and traders.

The construction of the sand stone cladding to the flood wall is complete in some sections. There are further drainage works to be completed in Douglas Row and Bank Street and sections of Huntly Street before the start of the streetscaping works. Streetscaping will be starting next week in Friars Lane into Bank Street as far as Church Lane.  In the coming weeks streetscaping will be starting in the remaining sections of Bank Street. (subject to change)

On the opposite side of the river in Huntly Street over the coming weeks,  as already mentioned drainage works will be continuing between Greig Street and Young Street (this will be followed with streetscaping) and between Wells Street and Celt Street. The wall is still to be constructed between Celt Street and Balnain Street.
