INVERNESS CITY CENTRE WASTE REVIEW

City Centre Waste Review

Inverness BID has joined with Highland Council and the Scottish Government in funding a Graduate Intern Post to focus on the increasing difficulties of waste storage and collection in Inverness city centre.

The person appointed to this post which is now being advertised will seek to:

• Collect and analyse inventory waste data from the BID area

• Collect best practice information from other BID areas in Scotland

• Provide a suite of options for change together with outline costs and benefits

• Present results of the feasibility to Highland Council Management together with a draft timetable for implementation

Inverness BID Chairman, Craig Duncan said “All the feedback from the public and businesses alike has highlighted the need to seek improved solutions to the current waste arrangements in the city centre.  We have been in discussion with Highland Council on this issue for some time and when we were asked to financially support this review to be undertaken by them, we had no hesitation in doing so given the importance of finding a way forward.”

City Leader Ian Brown added: “As Inverness City Centre has developed and the pressures of recycling have grown, some difficulties with associated waste storage have become apparent.  I hope that this is an opportunity for some fresh thinking, and working closely with the BID, businesses and households, this post could help to achieve significant improvements.” Follow this link to see the press release issued by the Highland Council.
