ATCM Quarterly Meeting held in Invenress

Scotland’s Town & city centre managers met for the first time in Inverness today (29th August).  Speakers at the well attended event included Fergus Ewing MSP, Jackie Cuddy BID Vice Chair and Robert Taylor editor of Inverness Courier.  ATCM Scotland’s quarterly meeting was hosted by Inverness BID.

Carbon CLEVER Cycles scheme launches in Inverness

A new pilot electric bike hire scheme launched in Inverness on Thursday 18th August.  Carbon CLEVER Cycles is a joint initiative between The Highland Council, Co-wheels car club and SSE which allows users to hire an e-bike from two locations in Inverness, at Falcon Square and Council Headquarters at Glenurquhart Road. The project is part of the Council’s vision and commitment to make Inverness carbon neutral by 2025.

FREE TRAINING FOR RETAILERS ON NEW SINGLE USE CARRIER BAG CHARGES

Retailers are invited to take advantage of FREE training workshops being held by Zero Waste Scotland to get ready for the 20th October when the new legislation for single use carrier bags begins and shoppers will be required to make a minimum 5p charge for all single use bags. Scotland currently uses 750 million bags each year and the legislation aims to encourage shoppers to think about reusing bags in order to prevent litter and combat our throwaway culture. The charge aims to encourage shoppers to make using a bag for life a habit wherever practicable.

BANK STREET TO REOPEN FOR JULY & AUGUST

Bank Street will be fully open to traffic for July and August 2014.It will close again to traffic on 1st September until the end of November, when there will be access to Fraser Street as previously to properties and for buses, taxis, refuse and emergency vehicles only.More info on the scheme can be found on the Highland Council's website
