Getting to Inverness

Via Inverness Airport, Dalcross, Inverness, IV2 7JB, located approximately 10 miles east of Inverness. Stagecoach Highlands’ number 11 route provides a direct connection between the airport and city centre every half hour.

Regular buses link Inverness with other Highland communities and express coaches run to the main cities of Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom.

By Train

Inverness Railway Station is located in the City Centre. There are direct services to Edinburgh, Glasgow and London from the south and Aberdeen from the east. There are two scenic lines: to Thurso and Wick, and to Kyle of Lochalsh.

If you’re travelling from London, the sleeper train is an excellent way to travel. It leaves from London Euston and arrives between 0800 – 0830.

East Coast also operates a daily service to and from London King’s Cross (known as The Highland Chieftain) which leaves at around 0900 (southbound) or 1200 (northbound). Journey time is around 8 hours.

By Road

The A9 south links Inverness with Edinburgh, Glasgow and the south. It continues north across the Kessock Bridge to the Northern Highlands of Scotland. To the east, the A96 links Inverness to the seaside holiday resort of Nairn and on to Aberdeen. To the south-west, the A82 winds along beautiful Loch Ness to Drumnadrochit and on to Fort Augustus and Fort William linking with the route to the romantic Isle of Skye.

Getting around Inverness

We welcome walkers and cyclists. Inverness forms part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network http://www.sustrans.org.uk/.

The bus routes in and around Inverness are mainly operated by Stagecoach

Car Hire

There are lots of places to hire a car whilst in Inverness including Europcar who have a stance in the lower mall of the Eastgate Centre – near the Falcon Square entrance. 

Taxis

Inverness Taxis are the number one Taxi company in Inverness.  Their booking centre is located on Church Street in the city centre where they also offer a variety of tours and local information.  Visit their website or phone 01463 222222 to book your next taxi.  They also provide a parcel delivery service.
