Our City Centre has great shops from multi-nationals to unique independents.  You will find 60 outlets in our modern indoor Shopping Centre – Eastgate Shopping Centre and a superb variety of businesses in Inverness Old Town including the indoor Victorian Market.  We have an excellent reputation for the variety of entertainment on offer – from traditional whisky bars offering live Scottish music to cocktail bars and nightclubs where you can dance the night away.

The Ironworks is a purpose built live music, event and conference venue in the heart of of the city and boasts state of the art equipment and a fully professional team dedicated to bringing Inverness the best in live music entertainment.

For history lovers the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery is a must visit where you can see the fascinating range of artefacts and collections that celebrate Highland life and heritage. The galleries feature exhibitions for you to learn about the heritage and the events that make our City what it is today.

Take a stroll up to Inverness Castle (currently undergoing a major renovation) an imposing gothic-style building dating back to 1835 offering fantastic views over the city and beyond from the Inverness Castle View Point.

Inverness Library is located on Farraline Park and offers public access to the lending library and reference room.  It often holds activities, exhibitions and author visits.

If you enjoy the theatre you must visit the award winning Eden Court Theatre where you will find an extensive entertainment programme.   Next to Eden Court you can visit the imposing Inverness St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Diocese of Moray, Ross & Caithness.

The more active visitor might like to enjoy walking, running or biking along one of the many riverside routes around the city, taking in the beautiful Ness Islands and River Ness. Wander west and you will come to the Highland Archive and Registration Centre, where you are welcome to drop in and research family history; the Inverness Botanic Gardens where you can explore the delightful gardens in any season; the Inverness Ice Centre, which provides excellent facilities for enjoying ice sport and Inverness Leisure and Aquadome for serious swimmers or a family day out as well as a host of sport classes available.

If you would like to hire a bike to explore the area there are many options available from road bikes to electric bikes.

Hi-Bike Inverness provide electric-assist bikes for short trips as well as longer term hire and you can find full details on their website.

Hop on to a City Sightseeing Tour Bus and soak in the history and views around the City – tours leave from  Inverness Bus Station.

For visitors with a disability the Highland Council has worked with Inverness Access Panel and national disability organisation DisabledGo to provide detailed access information to 1,000 public venues across Inverness and the surrounding wards. All types of venues are covered including leisure centres, libraries, shops, restaurants, cafes, tourist attractions and many more. The guides look at everything from the availability of parking, dimensions and fittings in accessible toilets, lighting levels, staff training, colour contrast and the services on offer.
